Red Squirrel & Hornet
Amazing how many other animals feed off the Red Naped Sapsucker (woodpecker) taps into our willow bushes: Red Squirrels, hornets, wasps, butterflies, and humming birds have all come in for sweet treats.

Outside the cities Red Squirrels dominate the forests, eating mostly pine and spruce tree seeds, but also plenty of mushrooms (which they dry out on branches for winter food). Hilarious watching Robins chase Red Squirrels around at high speed, since they also eat bird eggs. Three of the new-born rodents were feeding from the Red […]
These are two of three fledglings a pair of Red Naped Sapsuckers (woodpeckers) are feeding from the willow trees just behind our outdoor kitchen at our seasonal camp. The young are so funny learning how to fly. The bird life out in the Alberta foothills is wonderful.
We’re spending most of the summer in our new caravan at our seasonal camp in the Alberta foothills just east of Banff’s Ya Ha Tinda Ranch (where the new Bison heard was acclimatized before being released into the wild after a 125 year absence). While we accumulate home exchange credits (for future travels overseas) we […]
Took off for a week to Vancouver to get some shooting in downtown. Sun came out only one of three possible days, and we finished off toasting at Wreck Beach. Also hit the Blues Jam at Queens with some friends in Naniamo. Our house exchange was in Port Moody where 20 oil cars per day […]
Another successful event planned and executed! The Davies Family Reunion in Ashburton, South Island, New Zealand. Almost everybody was there, flying in from as far away as Calgary, Auckland, Wellington, and New Plymouth. What a great time, and thanks to Mike and Sue for hosting the after party on Sunday.
Another successful corporate retreat organized by Lizzy for Dr. Cat at The Face Place in Auckland, New Zealand. Both our BBQ Night and Pancake Breakfast were a hit, with responsible portioning, no food was wasted or left over! Flapper’s night catered dinner and party to relax the talented crew (dance playlist by David). Hard work […]
My first day off in two (2) months – seriously: Exposure Photography Festival curating five (5) visual artists in February, new WordPress web sites x3 (i.e. to simplify and clarify our lifestyle I built three new, identical, Image Seekers web sites, including one with shopping); and we finished off our Pancake Inventor’s Notebook, 15 years […]
Change-of-plans – Blizzard in Calgary, Red Arrow to Edmonton for the InFocus opening where Cutting Edge has been selected in a cross Canada contest. Some great photography is hanging for the Exposure Photography Festival “North” all of February.
David & Lizzy love to cook and host epicurean parties with wine pairings, audiophile stereo, fine art, and conversation. Their Pancake Inventor’s Notebook was 15 years in the making: bursts of hungry inspiration in between life, travel, and work. Down the Rabbit Hole now – no turning back – 400 copies on their way!
