Blue Fairies

Installation #2 of 3, downtown, note my fancy new Spanish shoes… Hamton, a ghost town in eastern Saskatchewan, is completely abandoned, as is the CNR (Canadian National Rail). The public hall was most recently used as an indoor skateboard park. This window graffiti in the front door reflects the green grass beyond—eliminating the blazing sun glare was the tricky part! 30”x48” ChromaLuxe™ archival dye sublimation aluminum print.

Call for Photographers

Image Seekers Urban Concept Gallery will be participating in Exposure Photography Festival next February 2018. We are inviting fine art photographers and videographers to submit proposals for exhibitions. We have an excellent reputation for showcasing skilled emerging guest photographers during Exposure, as well as our resident photographer David Leech. We have nine different spaces with thirty walls on four levels, perhaps you have been here? You will need 8-12 pieces of art ready to hang. We have a very large white projection wall, best viewed from the library, and a large screen TV in the guest suite. Please e-mail a brief project statement and links to david@imageseekers.ca by November 25th.

Whizz Bang #3

Whizz Bang #3, installed in Calgary for a new collector client who bought two images for his office and one for home! 30×48″ on ChromaLuxe dye sublimation aluminum. Cast aside in a lonely ranch paddock was and old car that looked like Bonnie & Clyde’s last stand: riddled with bullet holes; crack, whizz, bang, pop, smack. Munitions didn’t have enough velocity to penetrate the opposite side, but the lead impact dent caused the paint to star crack. Guarding access, on the other side of the barbed wire gate, was a grass fed long horned steer. We were exploring unsigned gravel roads near Val Marie in south west Saskatchewan, Canada.

Image Seekers Urban Concept Gallery — Exposure Festival 2016 —final weekend!

Special guest visual artist Malcolm Mooney. Open Saturday & Sunday, 11:00 am – 4:00 pm.

2104 – 23 Avenue Southwest, Calgary.

I couldn’t resist the spectrum of colours arrayed by these two brand new buildings, not even on Google maps yet. St. John’s, Newfoundland, being the Rock, at the salty edge of civilization. Maybe that’s why people are so friendly and welcoming, no smoggy urban pretensions yet.

Juxtaposition — urban concept art — Laid Back

Laid Back

Diagonal leading lines normally invoke an energetic, active, dynamic sense. But in this exposure, the heavily weighted corner seems relaxed, laid back, reflecting on the day with heavy eyelids. Quirky alignment of the subject and frame exemplifies the abstract mood. People look at me strangely when I shoot like this. Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Juxtaposition — urban concept art — Fresca

Fresca

St. John’s is a fantastically colourful capital. Bright, joyous, welcoming to everybody, not just tardy fishermen obscured in fog. Where else can architects get away with beaming citrus tiles like this? Juxtaposed against an engraved wall reminiscent of an Italian fresco. Newfoundland.

Guardian Angle

Dazzling sentry, bold and arrogant, keeping watch over the anonymous inhabitants residing in the shadows. Protective matrix grid of indifference stacking relentlessly to a mystical vanishing point in the sky. A polarizing filter eliminates glare and saturates colours. Downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Classic solid brick, warming up in the morning sun. Modern steel and glass, keeping its cool in the shade. Anchored by the tattoo parlour sign. Downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland. Polarizing filter to saturate colour, cancel reflection and glare.
